Over the past few years, supermarkets worldwide have been looking forward to becoming more eco-friendly by eliminating single-use plastic carryout bags and asking shoppers to bring their own. This proves how times have changed, as people from the 1960s couldn’t care less about reusable bags.

Before plastic bags became all the rage in the 1980s, grocery stores packed their clients’ purchased goods in multiple brown paper bags with no handles. These bags don’t seem as practical as the ones we use today.
